Getting hunting license in Canada Ontario?

By masterqtkd

I’m 17 now turning 18 in January. I’ve been a serious hunter for as long as I can remember. I hate the laws here being that you have to be 18 to be held legally responsible to purchase/own a rifle in Canada. So when I turn 18 i plan on getting my license. Can you tell me about the non restricted license tests and what not? I have 22’s and .223’s my grandpa past down to me but i plan plan on purchasing a .308 and maybe a tactical semi-auto precision rifle for long range shooting.
Can you give me any advice?

The new tests might be different, but when i got my FAC all i had to do was take a hunter safety course – 20 hrs total.
simple enough to pass, as im sure it still is; point your weapon at only things you want to shoot, check your safety, no fingering the trigger til you’re ready to fire etc etc.
probably best to just challenge the test if you were taught by a decent hunter.
good luck.

I took my non-restricted and restricted licences about 5 years ago, and the questions were mostly common sense answers. If I were you, I would take both at the same time and save some $$. Also, become a member of your local gun range and there’s your valid reason for owning a restricted weapon (AR-15, Pistol, etc.) Check out http://www.marstar.ca to find interesting rifles, or http://www.tradexcanada.com for excellent rifles for not so much cash.
